La Liga times set for overhaul

Kick-off times in La Liga are due to undergo yet another alteration as plans for the way television revenue is divided up take effect.

An extraordinary meeting of the Spanish League (LFP) is set for Wednesday, when the President of the Spanish Sports Council (CSD) is expected to attend and discuss the fine print of a new law governing the rearrangement and how it will affect clubs.

The main adjustment as far as fans are concerned, reports Marca, is that some games will now start as early as 2pm local time, with both Real Madrid and Barcelona not anticipated to play any future matches after 8pm to coincide with the Asian market.

The hope is that revenue would significantly increase from the €200m the LFP currently earns from foreign television rights, which would then be added to the €600m received from the Spanish TV companies.

Mediapro, one of the main operators, has already involved itself in targeting the Asian market, although rival company Sogecable is not so enthusiastic given their prime slot for broadcasting fixtures is usually 9pm.

However, the clubs are understood to have agreed that kick-off times will need to be moved to accommodate the new legislation.
