Miranda blow for Atletico

Atletico Madrid have been hit by the news that defender Miranda may be out for two weeks with a thigh injury.

The 30-year-old centre-back went off injured after 27 minutes of Brazil’s 2-1 friendly win over Austria in Vienna, to be replaced by former national team captain Thiago Silva, who along with the armband has also lost his place in his country’s starting line-up.

Brazil Coach Dunga has placed his faith in Miranda and Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz recently, the two having formed a successful pairing in his back four and yet to concede a goal when both are on the pitch.

Miranda could miss Atletico’s home games against Malaga and Deportivo la Coruna, although Dunga believes the problem is not as serious as at first thought.

“Miranda picked up an injury during the game and had to be substituted. We will know how severe it is on Wednesday when he has tests.

“Apparently it doesn’t appear that serious,” he offered.
