Nolito rues ‘almost perfect’ debut

Spain forward Nolito rued the fact that Toni Kroos’ late strike gave Germany a 1-0 victory in Vigo

The Real Madrid midfielder’s fierce shot ensured a fifth international defeat of 2014 for Vicente del Bosque’s men and brought to an end a disappointing year, the worst this century for the national team.

However, Celta Vigo striker Nolito was grateful to the Spain boss for selecting him for his La Roja bow at his home stadium.

“I thank the boss for picking me and I wasn’t going to give me shirt away to anyone,” he told reporters post-match.

“It could have been a perfect debut but that great goal from Kroos spoiled it a bit, yet the joy I feel cannot be expressed in words. I enjoyed it like a child.

“I’ve now got the radar on and have to do things right, continue to work with my team and try to learn and improve.

“I always say that the best is yet to come.”

Nolito made special mention of the reception he received from the fans at Balaidos.

“The affection the people here in Vigo showed me you couldn’t pay money for. The ovation they gave me was very emotional,” he claimed.
