Germany midfielder Toni Kroos maintains that the friendly with Spain in Vigo on Tuesday is a prestigious match between two big teams.
The Real Madrid man admitted, however, that the Germans have had some disappointing results since winning the World Cup in Brazil last summer.
“Two great teams are going to be playing in Vigo and it’s a game of prestige. If you organise a game like this then you obviously want to win, and I’m sure Spain will want to as well,” he told a Press conference.
“It’s normal to compare our football now with that we played in the World Cup and it’s clear we’ve lost some players through injury, although we still have a lot of quality.
“Against Poland and Ireland I don’t think we were as bad as people say. I was pleased with the performance against Poland, but we haven’t got all the points available and are unhappy with our position in the group.
“Nevertheless, I’m not worried and I think we’ll qualify for the European Championship in France.
“Some players have also left the Spanish team and it’s obvious they have some problems, so we are in a similar situation as we have to compensate for the loss of key players,” explained Kroos, who went on to lavish praise on Real Madrid teammate Isco.
“We are very happy to be playing against each other on Tuesday. Isco is a great player and deserves to be selected for Spain. We are happy to have him at Madrid.
“I’m looking forward to the game. I’ve said from the beginning I was comfortable in Spain and it’s great to play here.
“I’ve never played in Vigo, but it’s good because afterwards I’ll have a short trip home.
“We’ve come here as World Champions and therefore go into every game with the intention of winning it,” he concluded.
