Cerezo & Cholo reject exit talk

Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo insists there’s nothing to rumours Diego Simeone will quit, while Cholo insists he won’t leave the champions.

Simeone has been linked with a move away from Vicente Calderon but Cerezo has dismissed the speculation as the kind of rumour that always pops up, while the man himself has also weighed in separately.

“They’re rumours. There are always rumours,” Cerezo said, AS reports.

“Simeone is happy. He’s a good man who wants to keep working.”

In an interview with Marca, independent of Cerezo’s comments, Simeone has said that while he isn’t happy, it’s only because he has such high standards for a team he loves and isn’t leaving.

“I’m very comfortable at Atletico. I always want to keep growing and I’m not happy with anything,” Simeone said in the brief excerpt released thus far.

“I don’t know what the ceiling is for this team. It’s what I’m looking for.

“Happiness is serving a club I love so much for three years. They always think I could quit, but I’m thinking only of Malaga [Atletico’s next opponents].”
