Modric facing five weeks out

Real Madrid could be without Luka Modric for more than a month after the Croatia international was injured against Italy.

Modric went down with a groin problem inside the first 30 minutes of the 1-1 draw during a tussle with an opponent.

He tried to play on despite being in clear discomfort and was eventually replaced by Inter midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

The extent of the injury isn’t yet known, although, AS say Modric will be absent for between three and five weeks.

Both Modric and Ivan Rakitic, his international colleague and Barcelona opponent commented on the problem after the match.

“I don’t know [the extent of the injury]. We’ll know tomorrow after an MRI,” Modric said, AS reports.

“I hope that Modric’s injury is nothing serious. He told me it hurts a little bit,” Rakitic added.

AS point out the irony of the injury occurring at San Siro, the same venue at which Sami Khedira suffered a serious knee injury exactly a year earlier while playing for Germany against the Azzurri.
