Ramos defends commitment ‘truth’

Sergio Ramos has criticised the reaction to his comments about the commitment of some Spain players, insisting that he spoke 'the gospel truth'.

The defender's admission did not go down well with the Spanish Press and he was forced to deny that he was singling out Chelsea pair Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, but in a scathing attack on the country's media, Ramos claimed that he was deliberately misinterpreted to sell papers.

“I don't want to create controversy or anything like that, but I don't regret anything I said at the time, neither do I have to rectify any of what I've said,” Ramos fumed to reporters.

“If a newspaper wants to spread it across the front pages, they can go ahead. They do it because I don't give interviews, and so I will continue [not giving interviews to them] no doubt. I didn't like their front page, but it's their problem.

“I reiterate what I said about the commitment in the selection. Whoever I offended, that's their problem. I can't say otherwise. I spoke the gospel truth.

“They wanted to display the words out of context to hurt me. I haven't noticed a lack of commitment in our concentration.”
