‘Spain were in control’

Belarus Coach Andrei Zygmantovich had no complaints from his side’s 3-0 Euro 2016 qualification defeat against Spain.

Goals from Isco, Sergio Busquets and Pedro Rodriguez gave La Roja victory and speaking after the match, Zygmantovich admitted Spain were the better side.

“We met a Spain team in much better shape than we are,” he said, AS reports.

“They controlled the game with ease. It was a tough game. Spain are a world class team that played quick football with players of the utmost professionalism.

“It’s the fastest football I’ve ever seen. We weren’t able to stop it. The technical quality and their thinking adds to it.

“The first two goals were scored from outside the penalty area but we were against a team of high class. They’re much faster than any team we’ve played against.

“The two goals were caused by errors in midfield. These mistakes will help us orientate ourselves and see where we need to go.

“We had players missing and that made this the most difficult task. I can’t criticise any of my players because they gave 100% of what they had.

“I’d rather not worry or talk badly about any of my players because they are a team and no one has done anything wrong. Now we’ll talk about the mistakes so we keep learning.”

AS note Zygmantovich spoke in perfect Spanish, having played for Racing Santander during his career, and also named Spain as among the favourites to win Euro 2016.
