Pique ‘will try to get Enrique’s trust’

Gerard Pique has said he is happy to be with Spain and when he returns to Barcelona, will try to earn Luis Enrique’s trust.

Pique was interviewed by one of the sponsors of La Roja and admitted it was a pleasure to be with the national team, particularly considering he is out of favour at club level.

“I feel good. Coming with the national team is always a pleasure, an honour to share these eight or nine days with my colleagues,” he said, AS reports.

“On Saturday we have an important game, particularly after losing to Slovakia, but I think the team is mentally ready and we’ve prepared well. If all goes well, we’ll get three points.

“I appreciated what Vicente del Bosque has said to me, particularly with the situation I’m in at Barcelona, but I always think about the present and the future, not look back.

“Now I think about these next two games and then there’s a period with Barca, where I will try to play as much as possible and get the Coach to trust me.

“I think that not playing two or three games has made me inconsistent. Barcelona is my life and I don’t plan on leaving. I will continue to fight for a place.

“Enrique and I have a player-Coach relationship, as many do in the football world. In the end he is the one who decides and the players try to do what he wants from us.”
