Aperribay explains Moyes process

Real Sociedad President Joakin Aperribay has denied there was any problem in the hiring of David Moyes as the new Coach.

It was suggested that Moyes took a long time to decide he wanted the position after speculation lingered over a replacement for Jagoba Arrasate.

But Aperribay has told reporters the time frame was fair for a Coach of Moyes’ standing and the only concerns were sporting, rather than financial.

“The first time we met was October 30. A week to 10 days is the minimum you can give to a Coach the prestige of Moyes,” Aperribay insisted, AS reports.

“That conversation led to two conversations last week. I don’t think it took a long time. There were conversations about La Real and the future and an explanation about La Real and La Liga.

“For two people who don’t know each other it’s normal, so I don’t think negotiations were long and hard.

“We had to manage the time well to make sure everything could happen and be closed.

“The conversations talked about goals and the first thing is to win, win and win. The first thought is of the team and we have to give everything to repeat [the win over] Atletico Madrid.

“I don’t know how far we’ll get but there is time to get very far.

“I won’t say what the figures of the contract are but I will say they fit the club’s parameters. The economic issue wasn’t the main topic of discussion.

“We wanted someone who understood La Real. I don’t think it’s been difficult and we couldn’t have hired Moyes sooner than 10 days.

“We’re looking to be competitive and show Atletico was no fluke. We want to compete for positions of honour in La Liga.”
