Torres: Malaga have gained respect

Malaga defender Miguel Torres believes the club is slowly gaining respect from opponents after five consecutive La Liga victories.

Torres arrived at La Rosaleda from Olympiacos during the summer and has made just two La Liga appearances, having had to bide his time in cementing a place in Javi Gracia’s starting line-up with only Barcelona having conceded fewer goals than Los Blanquiazules.

Nonetheless, he is enjoying his time on the Costa del Sol and feels Malaga are a team that is going places.

“People can see we are a team that works hard right until the end of games and we have a lot of options,” he told a Press conference.

“It’s good that we are earning the respect of teams with what we are doing on the pitch. I have also been surprised by the fans, who get behind you when things are not going well.

“When they do go well they respond even more and not many teams get that kind of support.”

Malaga’s first game back after the international break is a tough away fixture against Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon, where the former Real Madrid and Getafe player knows it is going to be difficult.

“[Atletico boss] Diego Simeone will already be working towards this game and we are aware it will be tough.

“Atleti are not having the best of times after the defeat to Real Sociedad in San Sebastian so they will want to put things right,” he warned.
