Ramos criticises Costa & Fabregas

Sergio Ramos has criticised Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas, feeling that both should make more of an effort to represent the Spain national team.

Chelsea striker Costa was not called upon by boss Vicente del Bosque for Saturday’s Euro 2016 qualifier with Belarus or next week’s friendly with Germany, following a much-publicised spat between his Coach Jose Mourinho and the Spain tactician over an injury.

Clubmate Fabregas, meanwhile, joined up with the squad to be examined by doctors and was subsequently declared unfit to play, the midfielder being allowed to return to London.

It is a state of affairs that has not gone down well with Ramos, who in a thinly-veiled attack said not enough commitment was being shown to link up with the squad for internationals.

“As captain I’m the one least likely to discuss sensitive issues. I have my opinion, which I will not give, but they are agreements between the Coach and the players involved,” he told Radio Marca’s ‘Intermedio’ programme.

“I came here last time, did a test and didn’t play because of a soleus problem, but sometimes I play with discomfort. It depends on a player’s DNA.

“I’d like players to show the same commitment to the national team as they do to their clubs, whoever pays,” he declared.
