City to step up Simeone efforts?

Manchester City are reportedly ready to increase their efforts to bring Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone to the Etihad Stadium.

According to the Daily Star, the Argentine has emerged as the No 1 target for the Blues should they decide to dispense with the services of Manuel Pellegrini, who is under pressure following a disappointing start to the 2014-15 campaign.

The report claims City bosses have already started to consider possible replacements and have settled on Simeone, who last year led Atleti to the La Liga title and runners-up spot in the Champions League.

It is understood that Pellegrini still has the backing of club bosses for the time being, although their patience may be wearing thin as his team are currently eight points adrift of Chelsea in the title race, while they sit bottom of their Champions League group.

However, Chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak is likely to re-evaluate the situation come the end of the season and, in the event the Chilean is axed, will likely make his move for Simeone then.
