Liverpool are set to step up their interest in bringing Barcelona defender Martin Montoya to Anfield.
The 23-year-old [pictured, left] has made 38 La Liga appearances for the Catalans since making his debut in February 2011, coming on as a substitute in for the last five minutes of a 3-0 win over Real Mallorca, but has been included just once in Luis Enrique’s starting line-up this season.
His situation has alerted Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, who has already been linked with a move for the player, and according to the Daily Mirror the Reds may be willing to offer Montoya an escape route out of the Camp Nou.
A deal in the January transfer window cannot be ruled out, although the Merseysiders could face competition from Inter Milan as the Serie A giants are also keen to accommodate him.
