Camacho excited for La Roja call-up

Malaga midfielder Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Camacho says he is relishing the prospect of linking up with the Spain national team on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old is one of the new names in boss Vicente del Bosque’s squad for Saturday’s Euro 2016 qualifer with Belarus and the friendly with Germany three days later.

It is a prospect that the former Atletico Madrid man says he is looking forward to and one he wants to take full advantage of.

“The call-up is not just a recognition of my work but the whole of the Malaga team,” Camacho told La Opinion de Malaga.

“I found out the news when I was on my way home because I received a lot of messages on my phone, but I’m going to go there and train like I do with my club.

“I’m a professional and I’ll try to do my best, so I’ll enjoy the atmosphere and hopefully learn things.”

Camacho, who has represented his country at all youth levels, believes he will have no problem integrating as he already knows some of the players.

“Luckily the majority are young people with whom I’ve enjoyed playing for Spain at the lower levels.

“Also, there are some players I knew at Atleti such as David de Gea, Koke and Raul Garcia. It’s an environment I’m familiar with and obviously that makes it more comfortable for me.”

Malaga’s next game after the international break is a tough away trip to the Vicente Calderon to face his old club Atletico Madrid and Camacho admits it is always a special game for him.

“I’m still in touch with people that work there and some of the team, so it’s always nice to go back and play.

“It will be a very difficult game but hopefully we can make club history by getting a record-breaking sixth successive top-flight win,” he maintained.
