Vela: That’s more like it, La Real

Carlos Vela believes Real Sociedad have shown what they’re capable of after beating Champions Atletico Madrid.

Atletico went in front against the Coach-less Basques, Mario Mandzukic netting the first goal of the game before Vela equalised in spectacular fashion.

He explained to reporters that it was now-or-never for La Real, and there wasn’t a better occasion to show their worth.

“These are the kinds of games that motivate us, the situation we’re in, we had to take a step forward if we didn’t want to go into the international break with this bad feeling,” he admitted AS reports.

“It’s not a matter of the Coach, the players have to believe and follow this line to keep working and see what happens. It’s all we have left.”

Vela felt he should have been given a penalty for a foul by Diego Godin rather than booking for a dive, and also touched on an altercation with Mandzukic that left him with a bloody mouth.

“He fouls me and there could be a whistle, but it wasn’t that strong. I don’t know what to tell you,” he said.

“[The Mandzukic incident] is part of football. There was no way around him. The game is over and it ends there.”
