Jemez: I’ll have to talk about refs

Paco Jemez says he doesn’t want to talk about referees but after Rayo Vallecano’s defeat to Real Madrid, he’ll have to.

Madrid won 5-1 but Karim Benzema scored Los Blancos’ fourth goal from an offside position, with Jemez also unhappy about decisions in Rayo’s defeat to Eibar a week ago.

“I’m going to have to start talking about referees. Last week a penalty was given against us that wasn’t,” he complained, AS reports.

“Leo Baptistao had a goal disallowed for offside and I don’t know if it was or not, I couldn’t see from where I was, but Benzema was offside.

“If you complain it seems they don’t take you for a fool.

“Before it went to 3-1 we were competing well. We’ve done well in the second half and even had some possession. We needed to endure a little more.

“My players have done everything I wanted them to do. We’ve been brave and fought for the ball. We didn’t come here thinking about the result.

“We’ve done a lot within what’s possible for us. Maybe we don’t beat Madrid but we beat other teams. My players have shown the mentality of winners and bravery. I’m proud of them.”

There have been crossed words in the recent past between Jemez and his Madrid counterpart Carlo Ancelotti over Zinidine Zidane’s role as Castilla Coach, despite the former Madrid assistant not having the right qualifications.

Jemez said however that he and Ancelotti get along and there is mutual respect between the pair.

“We had a big hug before the game and that is the best thing to say,” he added.

“There’s respect, everything happened because it was Madrid and Zidane. He and I know the way things are. I want to get along with everyone.”
