Costa rest ‘nothing to do with Mou’

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has thanked Spain for dropping Diego Costa but insists the decision has nothing to do with him.

Vicente del Bosque chose not to call-up Costa for the games against Belarus and Germany after a running battle between the Blues and La Roja over the striker’s fitness.

Mourinho, who confirmed Costa will play this weekend against Liverpool, revealed he appreciated Spain giving the former Atletico Madrid forward a rest, and stressed he didn’t sway the decision.

“It’s good for him, good for Chelsea and good for Spain,” AS reports Mourinho saying.

“Now Diego Costa can rest for one or two days after playing [on Saturday]. I am very grateful. It’s fantastic news.

“I want to make it clear that I had nothing to do with this.”
