La Real close to Arrasate replacement

Real Sociedad President Jokin Aperribay feels the club are very close to appointing a replacement for the axed Jagoba Arrasate.

In fact, revealed Aperribay at a surprise Press conference, the new man could be in place as early as next Monday.

“I’ve spoken to the players and we thought it would be right to explain to you all what the situation is concerning a new Coach,” he told reporters.

“We’ve told [youth team Coach] Asier Santana there is a good chance he will be on the bench against Atletico Madrid this Sunday.

“We think it’s better to be ready to choose a new Coach because there is an international break coming up and we can make a final decision.

“The rumours about David Moyes and Pepe Mel are true, yet we are also talking to others. The Coach who comes in must understand the values and philosophy at La Real and the importance of our youth system, while he must become immersed in the philosophy of the club.”

Despite several names appearing to be on the short list, Aperribay insists that the club had no replacement lined up for Arrasate prior to the 1-0 home defeat to Malaga at the weekend.

“It shows we had faith in Arrasate and the proof is that there was no new Coach on Monday morning.

“We want to make sure we get the right man because whoever it is should not be a saviour for just one day but here for the long term.

“We are talking to four people and trying to get to know them. They have to be aware what Real Sociedad means.”
