Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff has hit out at former President Sandro Rosell and the club’s current regime.
The Catalans have been involved in a recent legal action against another former President Joan Laporta, and 16 of his fellow directors, a case that was eventually dismissed last week.
Rosell claimed his predecessor, a personal friend of Cruyff, had generated losses when the club was under his control and was seeking €47.6m in way of reparation.
However, Cruyff believes it is an issue that has damaged Barca’s reputation around the globe.
“It’s sad to see Barca in this state,” commented the Dutchman at the launch of a documentary celebrating his 40 years in Barcelona.
“We’ve lost a lot of prestige around the world. With UNICEF we were football’s crown jewels and everyone wanted to see us.
“I was smart to give back my club badge so I’m not sullied by everything that is going on now.
“Everybody who loves this club is not happy with what has been happening. Trials, a President who could go to prison…”
Nonetheless, Cruyff leapt to the defence of current Barca boss Luis Enrique.
“He has one thing going for him in that I signed him, although I never got to coach him because they sacked me.
“Barca had two coaches in nine years and now they’ve had three in three years,” he explained.
