Nuno: It’s only 10 games…

Valencia Coach Nuno Santo doesn’t want anyone getting too carried away by the team’s high League placing with Los Che second after 10 games.

A 3-1 away win in the derby with Villarreal on Sunday means Valencia are level on points with champions Atletico Madrid and one place and one point behind leaders Real Madrid.

Nuno said after the match that while things are going well at Mestalla, there’s a lot of football yet to be played and the target isn’t a title challenge, but rather a Champions League place.

“The ranking isn’t that important because it’s only been 10 games,” he stressed, AS reports.

“We’re on track but there’s more to come. If we want to be in the Champions League we have to add maximum points because La Liga is very good.

“You have to work hard to achieve your goal.”

Valencia downed the Yellow Submarine despite the absence of some important players, including captain Dani Parejo, who is set to be missing for a month due to injury.

Nuno added regarding the absences that injuries are impossible to avoid and he has faith in every player at his disposal.

“Everyone works very well and I have complete confidence in all the players,” he confirmed.

“What’s important is the players who were here and not the ones who weren’t.”

Nuno also called for Valencia to look forward, not back, particularly in light of the challenges the team is still to face.

“We look to much at the past. In order to have a better tomorrow we can’t think of yesterday,” he warned.

“We will continue because there is a lot to come and there are some complicated games ahead.

“There are many good things about us and that’s the most important thing.”
