Suarez: Football isn’t fair

Luis Suarez was frustrated as Barcelona lost at home to Celta Vigo, believing La Blaugrana deserved better than a 1-0 defeat.

Suarez was making his home debut for the club but despite Barca creating numerous chances, they lost out to Joaquin Larrivey’s second half goal, with Celta goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez in stunning form to keep a clean sheet.

“There’s a bittersweet feeling because the result isn’t with us,” Suarez said post-match, AS reports.

“Now it’s time to lift our heads and move on. When the ball doesn’t want to go in, it doesn’t go in and the goalkeeper performed very well.

“We created a lot of chances and the goalkeeper stopped them. Football is unfair.”

The game was Suarez’s second appearance for Barca after making his debut in the defeat to Real Madrid a week ago, and he said that, on a personal level, he feels he is getting up to speed.

“I felt better than the other day. At Santiago Bernabeu I felt good in the first half and then got tired in the second,” he recalled.

“The game against Espanyol [in the Catalan Super Cup in midweek] helped me to continue getting used to the rhythm.

“Of the three games, today is when I felt most comfortable with the ball and tactically. I feel good and the team was able to fight until the end.

“I prefer games like today, with lots of chances on goal.

“Celta played a good game. The put on a lot of pressure and didn’t let us have the ball. We knew they were strong up front.”

Suarez is now looking ahead to Barca’s next games, not least the Champions League tie against Ajax, the club for which he played before joining Liverpool.

“The message is clear to the fans, who continue to trust us – we’re the first to want to change the situation and give them joy in the next games and show who we are,” he continued.

“I’m grateful to Ajax and to return there. It’s a team that gave me a lot and helped me grow.”
