Enrique: Ball didn’t want to go in

Luis Enrique has praised Barcelona’s performance following their 1-0 defeat to Celta Vigo and accused the match ball ‘of not wanting to go in’.

La Blaugrana fired 19 attempts at goal and hit the bar four times yet failed to match Joaquin Larrivey’s winner, meaning they have now suffered back-to-back defeats, but their Coach is remaining defiant.

“I preferred to have more control, but against a team like Celta you could expect a game like this,” Enrique told reporters.

“We had 19 shots and hit the bar four times. Many things can be better, but the team kept on fighting until the end. We had enough chances, but the ball didn't want to go in.

“Whether I like it or not, we just weren’t effective. I worry about the dynamics of my team. Now it's up to us to show that we are prepared for this situation.

“There's an interesting week coming up. Hunting season is open, and our responsibility will now be to prepare for the game against Ajax.

“Defeats always cause doubts. We have to see what we can improve on. I'd love to have that many chances in each game though.

“We don't feel more comfortable without than with the ball, we train to have possession and dominate the game.”

Gerard Pique was dropped from the Barca squad for the visit of Celta, but Enrique refused to give anything away on the defender’s absence.

“He wasn’t in the squad for technical reasons. I won’t discuss these choices, not today or in the future.”
