Gracia wants points protection

Malaga Coach Javi Gracia is looking to build on his side’s points tally so the team are secure should they suffer a run of bad results.

Gracia this weekend takes his squad to Real Sociedad, having played for the Basques for four years, and acknowledged in his pre-match Press conference that he was looking forward to the reunion.

“I had very good times there, played in Europe and it’s always nice to return to somewhere you feel loved and where you were treated very well,” he said, AS reports.

“Historically we have done well at Anoeta and we want to extend that dynamic. It’s not easy, but that is the hope.

“We want to add a few more points so we’re better off, because we know that at some point we will have a bad run.

“The more points you have, the better you can handle the difficult times.”

Gracia also touched on the poor form of La Real and the pressure on his counterpart, Jagoba Arrasate, whose job has been under threat for the past few weeks.

“The opponent has that nervousness. There’s talk of a possible coaching change, they want more points than they’ve got and the environment can go against them,” he added.

“We’re on a good run but we’re thinking we can win because of that. If we neglect it in the slightest we will go on a dynamic like most teams at the bottom and suffer until the end of the season.”
