Leon license appeal dismissed

The Sports Council has dismissed an appeal by Getafe’s Pedro Leon and the players’ union, the AFE, over the club’s decision not to register the winger.

Getafe decided not to include Leon in their squad for the 2014-15 season as to do so would have taken the club’s wage bill over the LFP-imposed salary cap.

It means Leon has been frozen out of the side and has yet to play this season, leading to legal battles and disagreements between the club, the player, the AFE, the LFP and the RFEF.

AS reports that an appeal by Leon and Luis Rubiales, representing the AFE, against Leon’s non-registration has been rejected by the Sports Council, who ruled Getafe’s decision not to register Leon doesn’t contravene his right to work.

The Sports Council did however describe Getafe’s conduct as ‘objectionable’ and said the case should be heard in the civil court, not the sporting court.

The decision of the Sports Council is final but can be appealed to the Central Administrative Courts within two months.
