‘Sevilla getting their rewards’

Sevilla Coach Unai Emery believes the team’s lofty position is a reward for their good work, and paid tribute to the supporters.

At-the-death goals from Denis Suarez and Carlos Bacca gave Sevilla victory over Villarreal on Sunday, coming from a goal down after Lucas Vietto scored in the 79th minute.

Emery said after the final whistle that while he is happy with the result and how Los Rojiblancos’ season is going, the game could have been a lot better.

“I’m happy with what we did but we lacked the efficiency to make it perfect,” he lamented, Marca reports.

“I had respect for the game, they respected us and we respected them because they are a good team and had arguments to win.

“When you win you can’t keep celebrating. Today was a very competitive match but now we think of the next one, on Wednesday in the Cup [against Sabadell].”

Emery added however that to have 22 points from nine games – meaning they are joint-top with Barcelona – is a consequence of how well they have worked.

“We’ve generated hope for all Sevilla fans. It’s our responsibility to bring them joy,” he continued.

“It’s a pleasure, and to have 22 points is an internal reward. We thank the fans for their support.”
