Jemez: Rayo bad in every way

Paco Jemez made no attempt to sugar-coat Rayo Vallecano’s heavy defeat against Malaga, admitting his side had a ‘bad game in every aspect.’

Goals from Samu, Sergi Darder, Juanmi and a Nordin Amrabat penalty condemned the Madrid side to a 4-0 reverse and speaking to reporters after the match, Jemez offered no excuses.

“The explanation for why we lost is simple. When you’re not at your level and things don’t go your way, there’s not much to argue about,” AS reports the Coach saying.

“The opponent was better. The result is clear. Today we had a bad game in every aspect, even with the ball.

“When a team isn’t at their level and things don’t go their way the biggest one to lose is the Coach. We lost with every approach.

“It’s good that we have experienced this so we don’t believe we’re so good. The defeat can come in handy in the future.”

Jemez continued on the same theme, that though the result is bad, it’s not damaging in the long-term as it should be expected for a team such as Rayo.

“When we are strong and use the ball well we can be anyone,” he maintained.

“Nothing that happens in this competition can hurt us. We understand that sometimes this can happen to us. And the day we’re not at our level it will happen again. We are who we are.”

Jemez was also questioned why he wasn’t more animated on the touchline even as his side was being hammered by Malaga.

“Sometimes there is no need to go crazy,” he replied.

“Today I didn’t see a reason. The players were going wrong and I didn’t think it would help to be shouting.

“I think it was a game where it didn’t make much sense to reproach the players. I’d rather be calm and keep encouraging so we can end in a dignified manner.

“The players do what I say. I’m in charge and it’s my responsibility. Now we forget about it and focus on working this week to play Eibar.”
