Getafe Coach Cosmin Contra has revealed he expected former Atletico Madrid teammate Diego Simeone to thrive on the bench.
The pair played together at Vicente Calderon, along with German Burgos, the former goalkeeper who is Simeone’s assistant, and ahead of the game against the champions, Contra has said he isn’t surprised by his old colleague’s success.
“Cholo was the typical professional, living each moment with great intensity. You could see he would be a great Coach because he liked to talk a lot,” he told AS.
“Mono Burgos was a joy to be around. They are very good people.
“They’re the perfect pairing and Cholo has acknowledged that without Burgos to balance things out it would be different. He’s the best Coach in the world but German deserves part of the credit.”
