Prieto: Arrasate has players’ support

Real Sociedad captain Xabi Prieto insists the players support Jagoba Arrasate amid reports the Coach is a game from the sack.

It’s claimed in the Spanish Press that Pepe Mel or Juande Ramos will be appointed if La Real lose to Cordoba but Prieto has said the players have to take the blame for the team’s poor form.

“We’re not aware of what the Press say. We want to win to get higher up the table,” he said, AS reports.

“Jagoba is our Coach and we are with him to the death.

“I don’t think all the criticism is for the Coach. The players are more responsible. We have to look inside, be self-critical, so the team can move up the table.”

Prieto agreed however that the game against Cordoba is crucial, with the opponents yet to win a game and sacking Albert Ferrer earlier this week.

“We know how important it is, because you look at the League positions and it’s hard, and the sooner we reverse this trend the better,” the midfielder acknowledged.

“It’s a delicate situation because we have five points and we’re not in Europe. It’s totally different to what was expected at the start.

“But we have to work hard, be critical of ourselves and see if we can get wins.”
