‘Bruno deserves Spain call’

Villarreal Coach Marcelino believes Bruno Soriano deserves a place in the Spain squad after he scored in the Europa League win over Grasshoppers Zurich.

Bruno’s goal was one of four for the Yellow Submarine, with Grasshoppers pulling level before half-time only to be blown away after the break.

Cani opened the scoring after six minutes, Marco Schonbachler scoring two minutes before the interval, and Luciano Vietto, Bruno and Gio dos Santos wrapping up the win.

“We weren’t angry at half-time,” Marcelino said, AS reports.

“We just thought about how we played in the first half and we were aware we had to improve to win this match, which was very important.

“The reality is we dropped our intensity after scoring so early. It should have given us more confidence and self-esteem but we gradually disconnected until we conceded a goal when we weren’t focused.”

Marcelino added that he means no disrespect to Spain counterpart Vicente Del Bosque but can’t understand why Bruno hasn’t been involved with La Roja.

“I thought so before the World Cup and now there have been changes I understand less,” he continued.

“It would be fair to Villarreal and especially Bruno. He’s shown his ability lots of times. I say this with the utmost respect for Del Bosque.”
