Rodgers defends ‘sloppy’ Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers defended Liverpool’s display in the 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid, although he conceded his players had been sloppy.

“I thought we started very well and were aggressive in our pressing and passing. We coped until the period after they got their first goal until half-time,” the Reds boss told a Press conference following their Champions League clash at Anfield.

“We conceded a disappointing first goal and the other two were sloppy and nowhere near what we would want.

“Overall I thought it was a bit harsh to be 3-0 down at half-time but the quality and speed of their game is at another level.

“In the second half we were technically much better, kept possession, and were much more of a threat.”

Rodgers said he will deal with striker Mario Balotelli this week after the Italian swapped shirts with Madrid defender Pepe as the players went in for half-time.

“It’s not something I stand for. If you want to do something like that then you do it at the end of the game.

“It’s something I’ll deal with on Thursday,” commented Rodgers, who said he was unaware of the incident until after the match.
