Benzema: We’ll beat Barca

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was in confident mood following the 3-0 Champions League demolition of Liverpool at Anfield.

The Frenchman scored twice in the first half to add to Cristiano Ronaldo’s opening goal and immediately after the game he turned his attention to this weekend’s El Clasico against Barcelona.

“Tonight I’m very happy because this was a tough match but we did a great job as a team. It was a great game.

“On Saturday against Barcelona we know it will also be very difficult to play against them, as it always is, but we are doing well and we’re going to win,” he told reporters.

Benzema remarked on Liverpool’s whirlwind start to the Anfield clash and also the applause directed at Carlo Ancelotti’s team from the home supporters.

“We knew this team would put a lot of pressure on us and were aware we needed to be tight. We defended well and then, on the counter-attack, were able to create chances.

“Isco and James worked well together but we have a lot of good players and I think we are better than last year.

“Personally, I always give my best on the pitch. It’s the same in La Liga, although today I was lucky enough to score twice,” he added.
