Isco ‘more comfortable’ at Madrid

Isco claims he is now more comfortable with his role at Real Madrid following the 3-0 win Champions League win over Liverpool.

The Malaga-born midfielder was noticeably more involved in the play at Anfield and appears to have bought into what boss Carlo Ancelotti feels is his best position in the team.

“I feel more comfortable in my new position and I’m now understanding what the boss wants and what the team requires,” he told reporters post-match.

“The truth is that I’m very happy with my performance, but above all I’m happy for the team.

“We’ve taken another step forward because this was a very strong test coming to Anfield and we’ve overcome it.

“I’m glad I’m getting more playing time but the important thing was to win,” said Isco, who defined the part he now has to play on the inside of the midfield.

“Maybe this is what I’ve been asked to do all along. I now defend and steal more balls, so that makes me a more complete player.

“Ancelotti doesn’t ask you, it’s just what we have to do, both James [Rodriguez] and myself. Maybe in other teams they don’t ask as much but at Madrid you need something else, so if we have to run then we run all the more.”

Isco then turned his attention to Saturday’s clash with eternal rivals Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu, a game he feels Los Blancos needs to win.

“Barca always have the same style and have started well without conceding any goals, but hopefully we’ll be the first to score against them.

“It’s an important game and if we win we’ll be within one point. There’s still a long way to go in La Liga but we have to win.

“Is this the acid test for us? Possibly,” he maintained.
