Ancelotti: Madrid were mature

Carlo Ancelotti praised Real Madrid for their maturity after dispatching Liverpool 3-0 in the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo got the ball rolling before Karim Benzema plundered a brace on a night when the holders were comfortable against their Premier League opposition.

“We defended well in the first few minutes and controlled the initial intensity of Liverpool,” Ancelotti told Canal+ after the game, SportYou reports.

“Then we had quality and pace. The team has a lot of maturity and confidence at the moment. Everything went well.”

Ancelotti was even able to take off Ronaldo before the final whistle with Saturday’s Clasico in mind, and joked that he didn’t even have to ask – a reference to the controversy over Lionel Messi not going off against Eibar.

“In the end we had a lot of counter-attacks and Ronaldo had to sprint many times,” Ancelotti explained.

“The Clasico will be two teams that are in very good form. It will be a great show and I’m lucky I don’t have to pay to see it.”
