Iker: Ronaldo better form than Messi’s

Iker Casillas has paid tribute to the form of Cristiano Ronaldo after Real Madrid beat Liverpool and ahead of the Clasico.

Ronaldo scored the first goal of the 3-0 win with Karim Benzema’s brace completing the scoring and speaking after the match, Casillas expressed his belief that Los Blancos are ready to play Barcelona.

“We arrive very well for the Clasico – eight straight wins,” he pointed out, AS reports.

“It is a different game. The world will be watching and there’s lots of talk about what might happen.

“We’re at home and it will be important to cut the points gap on Barca.

“Cristiano? He’s better than Messi. I worry about my teammate the most and he’s in great form.

“It was a very complete performance [from the team] against Liverpool. We were very firm and solid.

“That’s the way to go. We were good at the back and in attack. We had great balance.

“We’re in good form and showing how strong we are. That’s despite the players we’re missing.

“The players who came in did well. This is the path to follow, win, win and win.”

Madrid changed their formation in the absence of Gareth Bale, going 4-4-2 rather than the more usual 4-3-3.

“The good thing is we feel comfortable with any system,” Casillas noted.

“Whether it’s 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, the important thing is to be a team.”

Casillas also commended the Liverpool supporters for their fervour and, most of all, the way they greet visiting players.

“I love the support these fans offer and the welcome for the goalkeeper is always appreciated,” he said.

“I also want to thank the fans who came over here to support us. We work with the objective of winning titles in the end.”
