‘Liverpool will improve for Madrid’

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has promised fans an improved performance when his team takes on Real Madrid this Wednesday.

The Croatian admitted the Anfield outfit had not been at their best despite the 3-2 victory at Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, and concedes they will need to raise their game significantly against Carlo Ancelotti’s men in their Champions League group game.

“We must improve and play more as a team. We need to show more and will not play like we did at QPR against Real Madrid, you can be sure of that.

“We know all about their players and will prepare a little bit different,” he told the Liverpool Echo, while insisting the Premier League outfit will be going into the game with no fear.

“It’s not daunting. It’s a pleasure to play against these players. I’m not afraid and nobody in our team is.

“We respect their players but we’ll show something completely different on Wednesday. We need to be more compact, to run more, and need to be together on the pitch, to breathe the same.

“We’ve got some amazing individuals but we must show it as a team. It’s difficult to say what has been wrong this season, a lot of things are not right at the moment, but it will come.”

Lovren is well aware of the threat posed by Cristiano Ronaldo, but insists Los Blancos also have other players to worry about.

“Obviously Ronaldo is a fantastic player but it’s not just him. You can’t just concentrate on him because you have other players who are scoring goals.

“I played against him three times when I was at Lyon. He wasn’t on my side [of the pitch] so he wasn’t too much of a problem!” he joked.
