Nuno: A bad game & a bad day

Valencia Coach Nuno Santo chalked up the 3-0 defeat to Deportivo La Coruna to a bad day and a bad start to the match.

Los Che went a goal down after 35 minutes when Gaya put through his own net, and Nuno told reporters after the final whistle that the die was cast from then on.

“Overall it was a bad game, a bad day, but there’s nothing to point to the ability of the players,” he insisted, AS reports.

“We wanted to find a goal. When you look for a goal and you’re behind, you take more risks and this is what can happen.

“We’re a team that comes out strong. The first goal came from a set-piece at a time when the match was a bit disjointed.

“The second goal was from a move we didn’t cope with very well. We didn’t do what we usually do. I’m surprised and it’s something we have to work on.

“When you see a game like that you have to sit back and work, to be stronger. In the next game we have to give a different answer in front of our fans.

“The team needs to be again what it had been until today. A team that wants to be in the Champions League won’t have two straight losses.”
