Messi ‘refused to be subbed’

Barcelona Coach Luis Enrique wanted to withdraw Lionel Messi during the win over Eibar but Messi refused to go off, reports in Spain claim.

AS cites a report from La Sexta in which it’s alleged Enrique got the attention of Messi and pointed to the bench as Munir El Haddadi was getting ready to come on.

Munir was receiving his instructions from Enrique’s assistant, Juan Carlos Unzue, and Enrique went over to Unzue, the pair spoke, and Munir was eventually brought on for Neymar.

The game was 76 minutes old by that point and the score 3-0, which it would stay by the final whistle, Messi having scored the third goal.

It was his 250th League goal for Barca, taking him to one away from Telmo Zarra’s record of 251.
