No sentiment from Nuno at Depor

Nuno Santo won’t go easy on Deportivo La Coruna despite his fond memories of the club, the Valencia Coach insisting they’re just another rival.

The former goalkeeper was on Depor’s books between 1997 and 2002, but spent much of that time on loan elsewhere.

However, he told his pre-match Press conference that he looks back upon his time at Riazor with fondness, but won’t let that cloud his judgement.

“I met people there and I made a lot of friends. It’s a special club for me for the time I spent there and for the people, but football is made of these things,” he said, AS reports.

“You get on with your life, you change your club and they’re a rival. I’m going to La Coruna to compete and try to win.”

There has been speculation that Victor Fernandez is not long for his post at Deportivo and a defeat could push the newly-promoted club into making a change.

Nuno played under Fernandez at Porto and expressed his admiration for his old boss, as well as predicting a hard game against the strugglers.

“I don’t know the intentions of the Deportivo board. Nor do I want to speculate,” he replied when the subject was raised.

“He was my Coach at Porto and I appreciate and admire him so much. I’ve seen his work and we have experienced some important moments.

“They’ll be a different opponent to what we have seen before. I expect a more competitive and organised Deportivo.

“They’ve been better able to use the international break whereas we come here with a dwindling squad.”
