Mou: Call Spain about Costa? Why?

Jose Mourinho has again brought up the club vs. country row between Chelsea and Spain over the fitness of Diego Costa.

Costa missed the Blues’ 2-1 win over Crystal Palace and Mourinho said afterwards that while the striker was unable to play for his club, he has no doubt Spain will pass him fit for the next international break.

The former Real Madrid Coach, speaking tongue-in-cheek throughout, also questioned why he would bother speaking to the national team staff about the player.

“Costa won’t play in the Champions League. I have no idea when he can return,” Mourinho said, according to Marca.

“It was with the national team. He played two big games for Spain against Slovakia and Luxembourg and returned without being able to play for his club.

“Contact Spain? For what? Why? Why spend money on phone calls? No.

“I think he will be in perfect condition in mid-November for the national team. That is for sure.

“Our doctors will take good care of him and he will be perfectly recovered. He’ll play with us when he has time free from the national team.”
