Atleti close in on Turkish defender

Atletico Madrid are on the verge of tying up a deal for Galatasaray defender Semih Kaya, according to Turkish TV station NTV.

Diego Simeone’s men are short on defensive cover following Toby Alderweireld’s loan move to Southampton and have reportedly been monitoring the Turkish international’s performances recently.

Atleti chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin is believed to have already travelled to Istanbul to discuss a January transfer to the Spanish champions, with NTV claiming an agreement could be imminent.

Kaya, 23, is a product of Galatasaray’s youth academy and already has plenty of experience, having made 92 League appearances while featuring in 18 Champions League matches.

Manchester United are also understood to be interested in the player, although Los Rojiblancos appear to have stolen a march on the Premier League giants.
