Luis Enrique doesn’t know for sure if Barcelona forward Luis Suarez is fully fit but he insists he is not fat.
Suarez’s fitness was questioned after some friendly appearances for Barca and Uruguay, the only action the former Liverpool forward can partake in due to the terms of his biting ban.
He will however be eligible for club football from next Saturday, just in time for Barca’s trip to Real Madrid in the first Clasico of the season.
Enrique, speaking at a Press conference to preview Eibar’s trip to Camp Nou, was asked if Suarez was ready to play at Santiago Bernabeu.
“It’s hard to say if he’s 100%. He feels better compared to the first training session and the games he’s played with his national team have helped,” Enrique is quoted as saying by AS.
“I don’t know if he’s 100%, 80 or 90, but he isn’t fat. You can already see that. He’s been in shape for months.”
Enrique was asked if Suarez’s return would signal the end of Munir El Haddadi and Sandro Ramirez in the Barca first team.
“We haven’t made any decisions. We’re evaluating the situation but it can change,” he replied.
“They could train with us but play in the B team. That’s lucky. It depends on their merits.
“It’s a difficult year for them because they’re under constant review. But it will do them good to toughen up.”
