Former Manchester United and Chelsea executive Peter Kenyon is set to take a role at Atletico Madrid, according to reports in Spain.
Marca report Kenyon will initially be involved with commercial and international business aspects of the club but speculate he will eventually take a role in the direction of the team.
Kenyon and Miguel Angel Gil are known to have a long-standing business relationship and Kenyon previously worked with CAA, a Hollywood agency that had a sports division of which Atletico was a client.
Gil and Kenyon are believed to have played a part in introducing Peter Lim to Valencia, or at least that is the belief of sources in Valencia, the report adds. Kenyon has in the past worked with Jorge Mendes, who is now a major power broker with Lim at Mestalla.
Atletico are understood to be looking for opportunities in the United States, which was part of the reason for the club’s recent stateside tour.
Kenyon’s arrival isn’t thought to be connected to the investment of Wang Jianlin, the Chinese tycoon who has been in talks over taking a 20% stake in the champions.
