Lucas honoured by Madrid link

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva has admitted it is an honour to be linked with a move to Real Madrid.

A report published in Marca on Wednesday claimed Los Blancos are considering him as a replacement for Sami Khedira, something that caused quite a stir in Brazil, and the player himself admitted he had seen the story.

“Of course I saw it. It’s always a joy to be spoken about like that and it’s good news for me,” he told the newspaper.

“When a club like Real Madrid want you it makes you feel proud and happy, although I know I need to focus on Cruzeiro, my club, but interest from Madrid will inspire me to continue working hard.”

The 21-year-old acknowledged he would welcome a move to Europe.

“Certainly I’d like to play for Madrid. It would be an honour. However, for that to happen an agreement between the clubs would need to be struck.

“Right now I’m a Cruzeiro player and I must respect that. But if a club like Madrid comes along I wouldn’t turn them down,” conceded Silva, who was asked to define his attributes as a footballer.

“I’m a modern attacking midfielder who is good on the ball, gets from box to box, and works hard for the team.

“I think I have good vision which helps me provide assists for my teammates.”
