Pep: I could see myself at United

Pep Guardiola has claimed that he could one day see himself as boss at Manchester United.

In a new bookprofiling the work of the former Barca boss, journalist Marti Perarnau reveals that the 43-year-old was first attracted to Old Trafford in 2011 while he was still in charge at Camp Nou.

Guardiola had already agreed to become Bayern Munich boss at the time, before United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had announced his retirement at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

Perarnau recounts a conversation between Guardiola and his personal assistant Manel Estiarte.

‘The day after beating Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final, Guardiola and Estiarte travelled to Manchester to watch their next opponents in action,’ he wrote.

‘It was May 4, 2011, and the pair sat together in the Old Trafford stands watching Sir Alex Ferguson's team beat Schalke 4-1.

“I like this atmosphere. I could see myself coaching here one day,” Pep turned to his friend and said.’

Perarnau went on to reveal that Guardiola has always had a deep admiration, almost veneration, for Europe’s legendary teams and players, and later received offers to take over at both Manchester City and Chelsea.
