Pique involved in brush with the law

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique was allegedly involved in a spat with Municipal Police in the Catalan capital on Sunday night.

A report in La Vanguardia claims the Spain international was in the Port Olimpic area of the city when his brother, Marc Pique, was fined on the spot for a traffic violation and accused of disrespect against two law enforcement officers.

Apparently Pique’s brother’s car was stationary in a bus lane for 15 minutes and was obstructing the movement of taxis in the same area.

It is then contended that Pique disagreed with the police’s version of events and proceeded to direct insults towards them.

“You are jealous of me because I’m famous. You’re fining us because you get commission, because you have no money,” he is reported to have shouted, before continuing the tirade.

“This will come to nothing because I’ll call your boss and he’ll get me off. I’ll talk to your bosses.

“You are so cocky and think you rule the world, wearing that uniform and fining people.

“You are shameful, your work disgusts me and the Municipal Police are a ******* disgrace,” are among the insults he is alleged to have yelled.

Pique’s brother, who it is understood to have stayed in his vehicle, collected the fine before the footballer is reported to have snatched it from his hand, crumpled it up and threw it back at the agents.

Pique and his brother are then thought to have entered the Barcelona Casino, right next to where the incident is understood to have taken place.

However, since the alleged confrontation the Barca man has apologised via his official Twitter account.

“Everything I said has been exaggerated but, in any case, I’m sorry and I was wrong. It won’t happen again,” he tweeted.
