Borussia ace in Bernabeu switch?

Real Madrid are ready to hijack Manchester United’s attempt to land Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Reports in Spain have it that Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti sees the 23-year-old as a star of the future and is prepared to make the Bundesliga outfit an offer to keep him out of the clutches of the Red Devils.

German international Gundogan has been with Dortmund since a summer 2011 move from Nurnberg and is due to make his comeback from injury this week.

Both clubs have been monitoring the player’s progress in recent months and United believed they had stolen a march in the pursuit of the star.

However, Madrid will provide formidable opposition for Gundogan’s signature next January, although his German club will probably demand upwards of €25m before they are willing to do business.
