Andres Iniesta admits he spoke to Spain international teammate Iker Casillas following La Roja’s 2-1 defeat in Slovakia last week.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Casillas was criticised for the mistake that led to Slovakia’s first goal, following on from the jeers he has had to endure at the Santiago Bernabeu this season.

However, Barca midfielder Iniesta believes the 33-year-old stopper is relaxed about the situation.

“Yes, I’ve spoken to Iker. It’s difficult [for him] but he’s calm about it,” he told Cadena SER’s ‘El Larguero’ programme.

Iniesta was presented with the Golden Foot award for 2014 in Monaco on Monday night and expressed his delight at receiving such an honour.

“I’m glad to have received this award and I’m grateful to the people who voted for me.

“I’m happy because at the ceremony I got to meet all the football legends who I didn’t know before,” said Iniesta, who commented on his pride at captaining his country.

“Being captain is an honour and I’m with one of the best national teams.

“We need to believe that the good times will return for us and I’m confident they will because we have the players that are capable of doing that.

“There are still some doubts after the World Cup and it’s important to take on board the criticism we received after the Slovakia defeat,” he maintained.
