De Gea delays United talks

David De Gea is delaying talks of a new contract with Manchester United in the hope that Real Madrid might make a move for him.

A report in the Daily Express suggests the Spanish giants are looking to the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper as the long-term replacement for Iker Casillas, something the 23-year-old would be keen on as he keeps his options open by stalling over fresh terms at Old Trafford.

It is understood that Jorge Mendes, the player’s agent, has told United that De Gea is in no rush to put pen to paper despite his existing agreement due to expire in June 2016.

Los Blancos would then be in a better negotiating position to push for a lower price as United would then run the risk of losing the player for nothing, a similar tactic Madrid employed when they prised Toni Kroos away from Bayern Munich.
