Iniesta wins Golden Foot award

Andres Iniesta has been presented with the Golden Foot award for the 2013-2014 campaign after beating Cristiano Ronaldo into second place.

The honour is given to the best footballer in the world above the age of 28, with the Barcelona midfielder receiving the accolade from Prince Albert II of Monaco at a ceremony in the principality on Monday night.

Iniesta was the only Barca player to appear in the top 10, where he was up against Ronaldo, Franck Ribery, Wayne Rooney, Manuel Neuer, Andrea Pirlo, Thiago Silva, Yaya Toure, Thierry Henry and Brazilian lady footballer Marta Vieira Da Silva.

A peculiarity of the award is that it is a prestigious international prize voted for by football enthusiasts on the Golden Foot website, while players nominated must be distinguished by their sporting achievements and personality, as well as for the respect in which they are held by fans and football experts.

Iniesta returns to Barca training on Tuesday alongside the rest of Luis Enrique’s squad that have been away on international duty for Spain: Gerard Pique, Marc Bartra, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Pedro.
